A Portugese faience dish
A large Portuguese faience dish with a decoration of a bird in a Chinese Wangli decoration. The dish can be dated 1625 – 1650, the production centre is Lisbon, Portugal. The decoration: on the the front the compartmentalized edge consists of representations inspired by kraak- porcelain. The front middle surface depicts a bird, possibly the Asian crane bustard (Chlamydotis undulate macquenti), in a landscape with bleeding plants. painted in blue on white. The reverse side of the edge is decorated with stylised plant ornaments.

Museum für Kunstgewerbe in Frankfurt am Main.
Reclaimed by the Dutch Art Property Foundation, it was exhibited for years in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
Returned to the art dealer’s Mogrobi’s heirs in 2023 by the Restitution Committee, including Mr. Jakobsen.
Purchased December 2024.
