A Yaka janus figure
A Yaka Janus figure standing stately on slightly bent knees covered around the waist to the neck in fringed cloth. Arms not visible. A cylindrical neck supporting the janus head with identical heart shaped facial planes with hollowed almond shaped eyes, above diminutive mouths, both topped by a cap-like coiffure; fine aged and heavily encrusted varied dark reddish-brown patina.
The present day Yaka live along the Kwango River in the South-West of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their neighbors are the the Kongo, Teke, Zombo, Nkanu, Suku,Pindi, Mbala, Hugann, Holo and Chokwe. Figure is mounted on a stand.
